Lightning

Surah Ar-Rum (30:24)

وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ يُرِيكُمُ الْبَرْقَ خَوْفًا وَطَمَعًا وَيُنَزِّلُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَيُحْيِي بِهِ الْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا

Wa min āyātihī yurīkumul-barqa khawfan wa ṭama'an wa yunazzilu minas-samā'i mā'an fa yuḥyī bihil-arḍa ba'da mawtihā

He is the One Who shows you lightning, inspiring 'you with' hope and fear, and produces heavy clouds.

Lightning is an electrical discharge caused by imbalances between storm clouds and the ground
These flashes are extremely hot - five times hotter than the Sun's surface!
Lightning can travel at speeds of 220,000 km/h
A single lightning bolt can contain up to one billion volts of electricity

Reflection

Although lightning gives the image of power, Allah, The One who creates lightning, is the All Powerful, and the only One we must worship.

Rain

Surah An-Nahl (16:10-11)

هُوَ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً ۖ لَكُمْ مِنْهُ شَرَابٌ وَمِنْهُ شَجَرٌ فِيهِ تُسِيمُونَ

Huwa alladhī anzala minas-samā'i mā'an lakum minhu sharābun waminhu shajarun fīhi tusīmūn

He is the One Who sends down rain from the sky, from which you drink and by which plants grow for your cattle to graze. With it He produces for you crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and every type of fruit.

Rain is formed when millions of water droplets bump into each other in clouds
When droplets become too heavy, they fall as rain
The average raindrop falls at about 17 miles per hour
Rainwater is naturally pure, having been distilled through evaporation

Reflection

Rain is one of the many signs of Allah's power, wisdom, and compassion. Let us be grateful and thank Allah for his countless mercy.

Fingerprint

Surah Al-Qiyamah (75:3-4)

أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنْسَانُ أَلَّنْ نَجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُ ﴿٣﴾ بَلَىٰ قَادِرِينَ عَلَىٰ أَنْ نُسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُ

A yaḥsabul-insānu allan najma'a 'iẓāmah, balā qādirīna 'alā an nusawwiya banānah

Do people think We cannot reassemble their bones? Yes indeed! We are capable of restoring even their very fingertips.

Scientific Facts

The Quran mentions fingertips because they reflect human individuality
No two fingerprints are alike - a fact discovered centuries after the Quran revealed it
Fingerprints form in the womb at around 3 months of gestation
Even identical twins have different fingerprints

The Quran contains scientific facts discovered many centuries later. Allah is The Greatest!

The Two Seas

Surah Al-Furqan (25:53)

وَهُوَ الَّذِي مَرَجَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ هَٰذَا عَذْبٌ فُرَاتٌ وَهَٰذَا مِلْحٌ أُجَاجٌ وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَهُمَا بَرْزَخًا وَحِجْرًا مَحْجُورًا

Wa huwa alladhī marajal-baḥrayni hādhā 'adhbun furātun wa hādhā milḥun ujājun wa ja'ala baynahumā barzakhān wa ḥijran maḥjūrā

And He is the One Who merges the two bodies of water: one fresh and sweet and the other salty and bitter, placing between them a barrier they cannot cross.

Where different seas meet, their waters don't immediately mix completely
This occurs due to differences in density, temperature, and salinity
The phenomenon creates a visible barrier between the waters
This barrier allows each body of water to maintain its distinct properties

Reflection

This phenomenon shows Allah's precise design in nature, maintaining the distinct properties of different bodies of water for our benefit.

Pain Receptors

Surah An-Nisa (4:56)

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا سَوْفَ نُصْلِيهِمْ نَارًا كُلَّمَا نَضِجَتْ جُلُودُهُمْ بَدَّلْنَاهُمْ جُلُودًا غَيْرَهَا لِيَذُوقُوا الْعَذَابَ

Inna alladhīna kafarū bi-āyātinā sawfa nuṣlīhim nāran kullamā naḍijat julūduhum baddalnāhum julūdan ghayrahā liyadhūqū al-'adhāb

Surely those who reject Our signs, We will cast them into the Fire. Whenever their skin is burnt completely, We will replace it so they will constantly taste the punishment.

Pain receptors are located in the skin
Without these receptors, a person wouldn't be able to feel pain
This fact was mentioned in the Quran long before scientific discovery
The skin contains numerous nerve endings that detect pain, temperature, and pressure
